International SMS Charge Increase

Post by ForumAdmin » Mon Aug 11, 2008 10:30 am

One of the 'fall outs' from the current financial recession/downturn/whatever has been that the charges made to Exetel for international SMS have more than tripled.

Therefore, from September 1st 2008 the charge for sending an international SMS via the Exetel SMS via broadband facility will increase from 5 cents to 18 cents.

Also, from September 1st 2008, the free 20 SMS messages bonus included in many of Exetel's broadband plans will exclude international SMS.

SMS sent to Australian number destinations remain unchanged at 5 cents per SMS.

Is that ALL SMS or only international SMS increasing to 18c?

Thanks. Might want to clarify that as the original announcement is ambiguous (notwithstanding the header).

Cheers

I disagree to the rise of international SMS charge to more than 300% increase. Unacceptable.

It costs 75c to do it through your mobile, it's still much cheaper than almost anywhere else.

Make your case to the wholesaler who tripled the price, there is nothing Exetel can do about it.

If a supply price rises then the sell price will rise proportionately - if not the supplier will go broke and there will be no service.

What is there to disagree with in that standard commercial scenario?

You aren't 'forced to use the service and if you can find a lower cost service elsewhere then you can obviously use that.

It's unfortunate, but that's life. Can't blame Exetel for the wholesaler slugging us with the increase.

I'm sure if there was an alternative then Exetel would have looked into it and I'm sure they are always looking for alternatives anyway.
The views I present are that of my own and NOT of any organisation I may belong to.

As from 01/09/2008 I can not send international SMS, is there anything I need to do to be able to send SMS to other countries ?

I have found the exesms program sometimes decides it requires the + in front of the country code. Then it works. Alternatively, a few days later it may decide to stop working again, to which I remove the + and all is happy until the next time.

While I was unhappy with the increase to 18c, the price is still cheaper than sending from your mobile and its amazing how you can reduce your sms traffic when there is a 300% increase in the cost.
