Re: Possible Change To Off Peak Period
I don't think you can say that
a small percentage of people here can represent the entire exetel members population.
All this means here is that
-people who read the email
-who bothered to register to make a comment
-existing members who previously had problems with exetel service and now make a comment here.
You can't draw any conclusion about the population from a small minority sample.
If you want real world sample
Just put an option for people who want to remain the same or change in the homepage
And I bet result would be different.
Probably most users would just leave it as it is.

I also did not say that I like to have two off peak options but i am saying if they do decide to change it regardless then don't force ppl to if they they don't want it.

Not gunna happen. It's one period for all. Deal with it.tyler.durden wrote:I think the middle ground is to let people have a choice

Re: Possible Change To Off Peak Period
This would be great for me. I am often doing online work in the morning but rarely in the afternoon. So when I am online around noon more of my downloads would be off peak.
Re: Possible Change To Off Peak Period
Although not particularly to my advantage, I believe this will benefit most of our existing members.
Fantastic idea!

Re: Possible Change To Off Peak Period
tyler.durden, computers have clocks, they can wake up, and close down again when unused, and they work quite well with the monitor off. I am sure few people sit by a computer doing hours-long downloads in the middle of the night, just so it can be switched off on completion. The electricity/wear-and-tear argument is small beer to a decision on off-peak timing. The modem you leave on happily all night is a small computer.
It seems to me that the main reason put forward for a 12 o'clock start is to permit kicking off a sequence of downloads manually, before retiring for the night at a sensible time. Is the manual start essential?
I do my modest downloads at present in the morning after breakfast. My only concern personally is whether delaying off-peak starts will affect usage in daylight hours, particularly around noon. I suspect it will make little difference.

Re: Possible Change To Off Peak Period
I'm in favour of the proposed 2am to 2pm off-peak period - it works for my present circumstances.
Re: Possible Change To Off Peak Period
2am to 2pm is good for me

I am in favour of the change
Re: Possible Change To Off Peak Period
I use a scheduler, so I'm not bothered either way.

Re: Possible Change To Off Peak Period
I support this. It is a good idea to change the offpeak time from 2AM to 2 PM.
Re: Possible Change To Off Peak Period
leave it as is from 12-12. i for one have had no problem with the current setup.
i'm at work during the day so extending off peak into the afternoon has no benefit for me and i'm rarely on beyond midnight anyway.
as for bringing it forward to 10pm, all that will do is slow late evening browsing down as people start downloading earlier.

Re: Possible Change To Off Peak Period
Changing to 2am - 2pm is fine with me. I don't get the benefit of full speed on my $70 plan, let alone ADSL2, seeing as I live in the Blue Mountains and I guess miles away from the exchange, so a longer off peak period would suit me perfectly for my occasional big downloads.
Re: Possible Change To Off Peak Period
This is not a good idea for me. I start the big download from midnight and have to stop it early in the morning. If the off-peak hours shifted 2 hours late, I would have less hours to download.
Re: Possible Change To Off Peak Period
I definitely support this change as it would allow me to watch my NRL games (using offpeak quota) a little later in the daytime.
