I'm currently on ADSL1 8192. I get about 4Mb down which is reasonable (and also sufficient for my needs). I would only change to an ADSL2+ plan if there were considerable cost savings in doing so. (currently I find the 8192 plan quite expensive however I understand the costs that Telstra imposes)

The amount of price drop took me by surprise. Had me wondering whether these would be viable for existing users.

Great they are going to be.

The revised and new 8192 plans are more reasonably based.

It wouldn't take a whole of of knowledge of the industry generally and Exetel's past actions in particular to work out that Exetel must have received better cost pricing to make the changes it has put in place.

Doubtless other providers have received better decreased pricing than Exetel has and they will reduce the end user prices of their own 8192 plans......

......then again......

That's quite a significant plan update, especially when those plans weren't that old to begin with. Good job :).

Slightly off-topic: With a $35 1500 plan and a $45 8192 plan I take it port prices are as low as they have ever been. Did you also achieve a similar price cut for the other slower ports, or are you definitely not going to be offering plans at those speeds ever again?

While I, personally, could be quite content to use a 512/128 service not many other people, since ADSL2 has become widely available, are.

Exetel has always passed on cost savings to customers and that is all you are seeing in this instance.

It isn't difficult to work out what has happened.

How do I find out wether my exchange is adsl2 enabled. My exchange is Glenfield Park (Wagga Wagga). If I am able to adsl2 on my exchange how do I go about getting it. I'm currently on a 1500/265 (z1500 I think) plan.

We will add an exchange check tool when the plans are added.

I currently can only get ADSL1 1500/128 here in the Ballina/Byron area. I presume that is
because of the Optus infrastructure here.

If 8192/384 becomes available, I'd love to switch :) I did enjoy ADSL2 when in Sydney
and would love to return the good ole speedy days here in the regionals.

Exetel only provide ADSL1 via Telstra - 8192 is also provided via Telstra.

No ADSL1 services are provided via Optus.

My confusion. I was on Optus bundled with phone line when in Sydney.

Do you know if Optus/AAPT have any plans for extending ADSL2 to Ballina?

After posting the above I read your Telstra offerings. The plans page is dated 11/08/10.
Is that the planned rollout date for 8192?

The negs about the Telstra/8192 offering are:
(a) price: not much DL allowance for a lot of bucks compared to ADSl1/1500
(b) no shaping availble: excess is $1.00/GB
Correct?

I doubt whether AAPT or Optus will provide ADSL2 in Ballina.

Well the Telstra ADSL2 pricing has been added to the members section, you think they would have updated the 8192 prices why they were there.
