Unable to get new HSPA connection running

Post by Grahel » Mon Feb 16, 2009 2:07 pm

I have activated my HSPA account and installed the Huawei E169 USB Stick. Connected the stick to the PC and it went through its download procedure. Never asked for the HSPA 'SP Code'. When I click on Connect it comes back and says the 'device has been disconnected or is unavailable'. Other problem is that the signal strength indicator is showing zero bars, but modem is showing it is connected to a WCDMA network. Any ideas I can use to get going?

I put it in under Static. Should it be dynamic?

It would appear to be a signal strength problem. I may have to get an aerial to boost the signal within the house. Any information on aerial or router to use?

You can see an antenna/dongle/router combination in use on Steve's blog at http://steve.blogs.exetel.com.au/ Scroll down to 31st December.
Some antenna sources are:

If you get prompted for a "SP CODE" just type in "BROADBAND" and it should then configure the exetel1 APN for you automagically...

Exetel tell you this in an email hidden paragraphs deep in nitti-gritty after you've ordered a HSPA modem off them.... but the info has been sent to you.

Hi,
I'm having exactly the same problem. New Huawei e169 arrived today. Inserted sim, activated account, did the exetel1 thing, but cannot get a connection. Instead, I get a no data, no connection message. Have tried with and without cable, removing the usb and starting again and have no idea what to do now. I'm confident I should be able to get an Optus 3G signal (even though my modem at the moment is saying there is no signal) as a friend of mine was the using the optus service in the very same seat I'm sitting in! Any help will be much appreciated.
