HSPA C3 with iPhone... Is it supposed to work?

Post by Strat » Fri Mar 27, 2009 12:12 pm

I've got a C3 data only 3G plan from exetel that i'm trying to use on my iphone. I'm pretty sure I have it setup correctly but it will not connect.

The card works fine in my PCMCIA modem on my laptop so I know the card works, just not in my iphone.

am I missing something?

I've set up the APN as exetel1 and my username as 04xxxxxxxx, password as 04xxxxxxxxAB

Do the data only cards work in the iphone or do I need a card with mobile as well like the HSPA M1 plan? If that is required can I switch plans without paying another $25?

Anyone successfully got the C1/C2/C3 cards set up on an iPhone?

cheers.

If you have managed to set the APN to exetel1 on your iphone then you should be able to use your iphone for data/voip. You will also need to remove the username & password as this is not required to connect.

Thanks for the reply.

I tried that as well. In fact I just tried it again but no luck.

Any other ideas?

EDIT: And just tried it again in my PCMCIA card with just the APN and it worked fine.....

Okay so a full restore of my iphone with that sim inserted and it is working. So either some weird setting got changed when I was playing or it wanted to be restored with that sim instead of my other sim.

Thanks for your help shermanf.

That leaves one other question though. Is it possible to move from the C3 plan to the M1 plan without reapplying? I assume both being on optus you guys can flick a switch so to speak and 'activate' my user number so I can make/receive calls?

Cheers.

You will need to place a new application to apply for the M1 data/mobile service

You should be able to receive both calls and sms on the iphone using a C3 card.

You should also be able to make calls using sip..... but not "sim" calls.

Harry.
