Windows 7 beta (build 7000)

Post by Dr Nick » Sat May 09, 2009 2:45 pm

Hi,

Im running Windows 7, and am having trouble with the modem.

When i start up, I open the program and insert the modem into a USB drive. I usually get some sort of signal (detecting device..., followed by an indication of getting signal)

Shortly after, i receive an error message saying that the modem has been removed, or is unavailable.

The program then indicates that I am no longer getting wireless signal, and I cannot connect.

The only way i have been able to overcome this is pulling out the modem and putting it in again, over and over, until eventually it will work.

Does anyone else experience a similar problem?

Are there program / driver updates for Windows 7?

Thanks,
Nick

I'm not familiar with Windows 7 but it wouldn't surprise me to hear about connectivity issues like yours.

In fact, there have been cases of similar connectivity issues in Windows XP. Let me see if I can find the thread

Edit: Found this and this which allude to a problem and the first one says new E169 firmware at http://www.huawei.com/mobileweb/en/doc/ ... -1&id=4381 solved the issue

Try the new RC - Build 7100.

Using it & loving it, on an OLD laptop.

Not tried with HSPA modem tho.

I've used HSPA modems from both Exetel, Optus and Three on both Windows 7 Build 7000 and the new RC Build 7100 with no problems whatsoever.

Getting a new computer some time this / next week.

Going to wait to install the RC on it. Hopefully this will work, with the new OS and new computer altogether...

I'll post back with the results when i get to it.

Thanks.

This is definitely a confirmed firmware/software issue. Update to the latest from Huawei and it should be fine. Windows 7 is *supposed* to give a prompt to tell you that but it didn't with 7000. Not sure if it does with 7100 since I'd fixed mine before I installed it.
