Another Huawei e169 with Error 619

Post by russellb » Thu Jun 11, 2009 10:58 pm

I have been using my HSPA service happily for a couple of months and was just about to cancel my ADSL line, but today I have been unable to connect with the Huawei 169. I am getting 5 bars of signal, but authentication fails with error 619. Settings on the connection profile have not changed.

Any help, please? We want to go travelling and need the mobile connection.

I've had exactly the same problem as Russell since yesterday - thought it might have been an outage that would be rectified by today but it seems it hasnt. HSPA was working like a dream prior to yesterday - haven't changed anything on my computers that may suggest a problem either.

Connection fails during the Authentication stage and returns Error Code 619. Have tried different machines in different towns near Wagga - nothing.

I noticed on the Telstra outages link provided in the Network Status page that they've had a few outages Australia wide but is this only ADSL?

Going to try and get on the blower and see if I can talk to someone about it - dont really want to wait at least 2 days for an answer logging a fault ticket unless I have to! ;)

It is a Windows error message. Have you seen http://forum.exetel.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=30168 ? It is an Optus-based service, not Telstra.

APN is set to exetel1, before and after attempted connection.

Likewise, mine has been set to exetel1 for a couple of months, and just developed the connection problem.

Me too. I use the USB on two laptops - one with Vista and one with XP. I haven't changed any settings. All my settings are as they should be. I installed it on a desktop that has never used the service and also got the same error. It all started on 11th June. I'm now not getting replies to emails so I'm guessing they're too busy trying to fix it to reply. Fingers crossed. The fix in the link doesn't apply to the problem because the APN is always exetel1, it doesn't change to connect as described in the link. So this is definitely a different issue.

It seems that the problem is between Optus and Exetel. This would fit with the strong signal showing in the Windows utility.

Can those of you affected PM your service numbers to me ?
russellb, Before we investigate, can you check using a supported platform, such as windows XP, and confirm if the issue remains ?

I'm back in business, albeit from a location 60km from home. hopefully it will be the same from the tower close to home. :D

Now checked from home and working.

A few weeks ago the Optus towers in the area dropped out altogether for a few hours. It would be nice if they made it easy to find a fault page somewhere on their site. I would have gone their first to check the problem we were having. I can understand why they don't want to prominently 'advertise' faults, but it would save some angst. Everyone accepts technology isn't perfect nor failsafe, so there shoule be more pros that cons. My 2 cents

It has been working all day today and no problems authenticating. Think it is something to do with Optus! Have submitted fault ticket. Will see what eventuates.
