call rate confuse

Post by bennyvo » Thu Jul 03, 2008 1:15 pm

Hi,

I'm on Plan B, no minimum/monthly fee.
1. Is calling Australia land line 10cent untimed or 1cent untimed?
2. Is calling Australia mobile 22cent per minute?
3. If answer to Q2 is true, then why is it calling to Singapore/Vietnam is cheaper (Singapore - Mobile $0.02) (Vietnam - Mobile $0.13)

Thanks.

We obviously buy those destinations cheaper than we buy Australian mobiles.

10c untinmed in OZ. I can't see anywhere that 1c is referred to for OZ. Link

Yes.

I would assume that there are no terminators that are willing to provide Exetel (or anyone) with a lower priced wholesale cost.

EDIT: Damn slow connection at lunch  (work not Exetel). It took over 8 minutes for the pages to load to enable me to respond to this thread. Time enough for two others to get in.

Odd I know, but it cost me less for a short conversation to someone in Boston than it did to call a number in Thomastown, Vic!

My understanding of VoIP is that a provider (Exetel in this case) deal with other VoIP providers to terminate or place calls locallly at a lower rate than making a PSTN or POTS call from within Australia. Exetel then set up dialling rules to ensure they route calls to the cheapest way possible. They would probably tweak the dialling rules regularly depending on what deals they can make with other providers.
The views I present are that of my own and NOT of any organisation I may belong to.
