Voip Incoming call failure with Zyxel P2302R, Naked ADSL2

Post by syncmaster » Thu Jul 10, 2008 7:16 pm

I create this topic hoping someone with similar issue can share the information in the future.

Since I have changed my ADSL service to Naked ADSL2+,
I haven't found the solution of my Voip incoming call failure problem with my Zyxel P2302R voip gateway.
I am using this P2302R with Netcomm NB5Plus4W.

I have searched related topics in the forum without success.

The symptom is incoming calls cannot be made or take ages to get through after Zyxel P2302R turned on for a while.
When this happens, normally there is no calling tone at all and after silence for a while, it just hangs up.
Then, when I restart (power off and turn on) the voip gateway, it appears it accepts incoming calls for a while then back to the same problem. Sometimes, it accepts incoming calls.

I have sent screenshots of Voip configuration and modem config to Exetel Voip support and Martin just advised me to set back to the WAN IP to get it automatically (initially it was set so but I changed it to fixed IP gateway), but I am afraid this setting is just the original setting with the same problem.

Is there any user with Zyxel P2302R voip gateway receiving voip calls without an issue?

Potentially some other factors causing this issue such as;
Do I have to do any extra setting like port forwarding in my modem?
Is it possible that my VOIP number has potential issue? (I saw one case of this in the forum somewhere)
Or Zyxel P2302R hardware may be faulty?
but at this moment, I cannot pin-point the root of this problem yet.

Thank you for your help or comments in advance.

Port forwarding was the answer for this issue.
After setting port forwarding config in my modem, all incoming calls are made without any problem.

I thought I didn't need this setting.

Hello,

Thank you for your contribution, the port forwarding will generally need to be done if you are using two devices for voip. Eg modem/router with external voip ata box. However if you have using a single device that does all functions modem / voip then it will be auto forwarded.

Can you please let me know how to set up port forwarding on my modem. i have the exact same system as you are using and my VOIP modem seems to loose its connection after some time. Once i restart it it seems to work.
