VOIP did incoming calls does'nt work

Post by nigelbatchelor » Mon Aug 25, 2008 7:02 pm

Hi
I have just joined up Exetel.
I can make outgoing telephone calls but can’t receive incoming calls? Whenever I try and call my did via my mobile it just says “optus wishes to advise that this number is not connected”
I have changed from g711 codec to g729 but to no avail. I am using a billion 7401vgp modem and have all other codec prioritys turned off as recommended. The DTMF method is RFC2833. The encapsulation is ppoe.

Unclear as to why I can’t receive incoming calls, any ideas ?

Have you set up port forwarding for port 5060 in your modem?
Log a fault ticket here
or call Exetel VOIP numbers (02) 8030 1000 or 1300 788 141 (log faults 24x7)

Hi Gidget

I have on your suggestion changed my RTP port(under "sip device parameters") to 5060. This has though, having saved and rebooted my modem/router ,unfortunatley made no difference and the same "number not conected" occurrs when i ring my did?
My settings for phone port 1 are:
My registrar address is 58.96.1.2
registrar port : 5060
expire : 3600
user domain/realm : 58.96.1.2
outbound proxy address : 58.96.1.2
outbound proxy port : 5060

Cheers Nigel

try changing your expire time to 240

do you find if you make an outgoing call that incoming calls will work for a short time after?

HI Jok11n

I have just changed it to 240 as u suggested. No change unfortunatley. It doesn't allow even then for any incoming calls at all.

Cheers

Hi
Perhaps you may have to wait.
I just changed my plan and now have 2 DIDS. Running nb9maxx my original did dials in but the new one gets message saying its been disconnected.
I only did it 10 minutes ago so maybe wait and see what happens.
If yours now works please plce reply in here, it could be the answer.
Regards

Oh
Just rememberd.
It can not be the settigs that you are all saying, as I have not changed setings Ive just added another DID in phone 2 in the nb9.settings are the same just the password is differnt and of course the phone number.
It has to be exetel or switching or something.

I'm in the same boat here, new DID, same message. I've logged a fault ticket, will report back when the issue is resolved.

HI

Yes I rebooted a number of times now no difference. I tried to raise a ticket via calling the phone no provided and it said enter my phone no and then said that it wasn't a valid no so wouldn't raise a ticket.... I have now sent an email to telephone support and so will await a response. Have yet to receive any incoming calls at all.

On another note on two outbound calls this afternoon the phone just dropped out. The computer wasn't being used at all during these call. I susbpect mapbe setting my codec to g729 instead of g711 could be the problem there or hopefully anyway.

At this stage I will just await the repsonse from my ticket. Hopefully a solution soon.

Sounds like others are also having this problem.

Cheers Nigel

Hi

"by Gidget on Mon Aug 25, 2008 10:29 pm

Have you set up port forwarding for port 5060 in your modem?"

I realise now that i did not understand what Gidget was suggesting. I have since read a link my jok11n about port forwarding and have now gone to add virtual server (port forwarding)
It asks me there to input the application to forward eg SNMP telnet , pop3 etc. Can anyone suggest which one i have to select? I gather i will need to forward the correct one to 5060. Then i have to select an intenal ip address. There are only 2 so i guess i will figure that out.

Cheers Nigel

What hardware do you have, do you have an all in one modem/router with VoIP or do you have a separate VoIP adapter behind a router?

Hi Nigel

You use protocol TCP and UDP - you may only need one of these but I can never remember which one :D

Just ignore the application field i.e. leave blank, or call it "VOIP" for your own information. The applications listed are just there for convenience so you don't have to remember their related ports and protocols.

Cheers
