X-Lite: Registration Error 408 - Request Timeout

Post by marting » Wed Nov 19, 2008 11:07 pm

My X-Lite is unable to create a connection and times out with the following error:
X-Lite: Registration Error 408 - Request Timeout
My settings are exactly as outlined in the exetel X-Lite manual.

So far I've tried the following but all result in the above error message:
1. Openned ports 5060, 8000-8005 on my firewall (Port forwarding), it works for other (non-voip) applications.
2. Reset my voip account password

Seems like my X-Lite is unable to connect to the server or vice versa.
I have: D-Link DSL-2740B modem/router, Windows Vista, internet connection is stable.

I think it's definitely a firewall problem because when I uncheck register with domain it manages to connect though all the calls I make fail eventually.

What ports need to be open for the exetel sip server?

Any help appreciated.

You normally only need to forward port 5060 UDP to get things working, some routers can be a bit trickier but it does vary by make and model, you can try setting your PC in the DMZ of the router as a test to see if it is the router tripping you up, if it's still no go then it will be something in Windows that is causing you grief

You might also want to change the domain from sip1.exetel.com.au to 58.96.1.2 (may not be related but it is now the recommended setting) and see if that has any effect

Thank you for your help.

It got fixed only when I disabled DHCP on my machine. I think what happened is that my router assigned new IPs quite often. To receive incoming calls I had to change Topology -> Use local IP address.
