Costs re naked dsl2+ deal VOIP

Post by himagain » Tue Nov 17, 2009 7:03 pm

Newby REALLY confused the more I read.......
1. I understood that the charge for naked dsl went up from $25 BYOP to $40 VOIP as a charge for VOIP.
I cannot understand what I bought now.
What do I get with the VOIP?
What add-on charges are there for my VOIP deal?

2. I just rechecked currently my non-VOIP working modem setup and found Internode (the opposition!) listed as provider by default.
I've changed it to Exetel as THAT is what I expected. Is that correct?
(Did not resolve the problem of no service)

Hi

You can have one of two VOIP plan options for use with your Naked service
(as described further here)
http://www.exetel.com.au/voip_planA.php

Code: Select all

Plans Min Charge Landlines Mobiles 13, 1300 no's FFall Billing Incrmnt

Post VoIP 0 $0.00 $0.10 per call $0.22 per minute $0.30 per call $0.00 Per second
Post VoIP 15 $15.00 $0.09 per call $0.12 per minute $0.30 per call $0.06 Per 30 secs
i.e. you should choose the plan that best suits your needs - if you choose Post VOIP 0 you don't have to pay a monthly minimum charge, but calls are a bit more expensive.

At the moment, you do not yet have a VOIP service but I see that your Naked service was only completed today. Exetel used to provide the VOIP service add-on automatically for a Naked service - I'm not sure how it works now. Perhaps Jason might drop by and elaborate on this, or someone with a recently-provisioned Naked service might let you know what happens.

I just composed a reply too, but it doesn't add to Gidget's, so consider it erased. I don't understand the modem question though. If you post the model, it is likely that there is a how-to document or forum post detailing the setup. I am not aware of any brand with a built-in Exetel config. You will need either a separate ATA or a combined ATA/router for VoIP.

Hi Gidget and folks,,
My initial confusion was that I was charged $15 more than the initial desired deal of BYOP of $25 p.m.
My only offered setup in CAloundra (4551) was $40 ($15 more) and as I was now on a naked dsl- was that a $15 charge for a voip plan?
In signing up for voip - there was an offer of free or $15. I wasn't sure whether I was already paying it. (I mistakenly thought voip was "free" )
As for the comment about automatically provisioning it - they don't.
I found out "accidentally" with my continual queries that you have to manually install it ( no advice re this early anywhere).
It still doesn't work.

VOIP status shows as "unknown".
EXETEL sent info to put "sip1.exetel.com.au" in:
ADV/voip/sipaccounts/SipRegister Server

CAn't find it anywhere - only option is to select a pre-configured provider under "voip wizard" no way to enter anything or add another provider I can see in my Billion ......
------------------------------------------------------------
Cheers,
Himagain.

Don't use the voip wizard - configure the pages manually as per the guide here

Hi there,
Don't have any such title/option on my Billion router.

THanks anyway.

Hi there,
As already mentioned (see below) there is no such option on the Billion.

It is never a good idea to use wizards or application software to configure modems, routers and ATAs if there is a browser interface. You don't know what was done and there is a good chance of it being wrong. What Billion model are you using for VoIP?

7301VGP - bought especially for the job.........
The wizard is part of the browser interface - not sure what other option you mean here??
What solution are you suggesting?

Himagain.

7301,
Well that's why it does not have 'User defined profiles',
Check out this page, Half way down the settings will be the same as for the 7401.

Hi folks,
Moving right along now..........
Thanks for help re the charges confusion. Anything to due with voip I will be VERY careful of in future - I mistakenly thought it would be a "mature" technology by now. (Eternal optimist)

Have moved to a more relevant subject: HOW TO GET VOIP CONNECTED WITH NAKED DSL2+

It just keeps getting more .... interessting...

Cheers!

Hi, thanks, but this is no use at all for my problem.
The Billion interface for all models in this series, 7301vgp, 7401vgp, 7404vgp is the same there is no reason you cannot use that guide, just ignore that the 7404 has 2 voip ports.

Not on my machine. There is nowhere like the instructions recently received from Exetel, to follow.
There is no VOIP/SIP ACCOUNTS/SIP REGISTER SERVER option that I can see.

(I actually found a mini-disk in the router-box with a manual in it for this machine. But no such instruction anywhere on it.)

Have switched to a new subject as the original subject here is now misleading:
HOW TO GET VOIP CONNECTED WITH NAKED DSL2+

Cheers!
