how do I call forward my home VOIP number to my mobile phone

Hi everyone

I hope someone can help me.

At home, I'm using VOIP with an exetel Naked service. My modem is a Dynalink RTA1046VW. I've got a phone with answering machine plugged into the modem.

I'm currently away from home for a few days. I want to call forward my VOIP number to my mobile phone. Yesterday evening, I logged into exetel member facilities, clicked on "voip" then "change voip services" then "configure". Under "call forward" I checked the tickbox next to "active" and typed in my ten-digit mobile phone number (no spaces, no brackets). I then clicked on "change", logged out of the exetel member facilities, and tried ringing my VOIP phone number from a friend's mobile phone . The call forward didn't work. Instead, the phone rang for a few rings before going through to the answering machine. In case this was something that takes some time to come into effect, I tried again this morning. Again, the phone rang for a few rings before going through to the answering machine. Can someone please explain what I need to do to forward my VOIP number to my mobile?

Thanks

Isobel

I understand that you need to de-register your voip, ie. turn the ata off, remove username and password or close the softphone if you are using one.
My call forward isn't working either and I'd appreciate íf you could let us know whether this recommendation made it work.
Interestingly, I don't have an "Active" checkbox for call forward, only for Voicemail Alert.

Hi Isobel

As Mandella hinted at, I think you might have simply put your mobile number in the wrong box - it should go in the box on the line above the "Call Forward" option, not in the box on the line below which relates to the "Voicemail Alert" (hence the tick box for "Active" also relates to the "Voicemail Alert" option.

No, it's definitely not that.

I've just tried to test the forwarding for VoIP and the call doesn't even connect, just goes to a busy tone. I've entered by mobile number both plain and with the +614 beginning, with no luck at all.

Perhaps one of the engineers can look into the problem?

Thanks Mandella and Gidget. It appears that I was doing two things incorrectly:

Mistake 1: As Gidget suggested, I had mis-read the "change voip" page - I thought the box I was entering in was the "call forward" one but it was in fact the "voicemail" one.

Mistake 2: Mandella said that I need to "de-register" my voip "ie turn the ata off, remove username and password or close the softphone".

I've corrected my first mistake, but I don't actually know how to deal with the second mistake. I don't know what "ata" is or where to go to remove my username and password. I am not using a softphone. Can someone please explain to me in plain english how to de-register my voip, if that is indeed what I need to do in order to temporarily forward voip calls to my mobile phone?

I just discovered when setting the ata to "forward when busy" and the forwarding number is entered into the ata and into the web admin it behaves as if "forward when no answer" and the call is forwarded after about 10 rings.
This is the only config how I get call forward to work. Entering the forward number into the web admin and de-registering voip or selecting "forward all calls" via the ata results in "failed call" messages on mobiles or busy or rapid high-low tones when calling from landlines; basically the same behaviour as if the ata is turned off and no forwarding enabled.
Remarkably, when calling from another Exetel voip service all works fine.

Log into the box you connect your phone to, go to the voip or voice section and remove your phone number and password, then restart or save.

But, in other words, the call is not forwarded from server level, but from ATA level if you set it that way?

It should work from server level, that's what I'm curious about and needs fixing.

That's correct, it isn't working from server level, ie. entering the forward number and de-registering voip. And it isn't working correctly from the ata either, just in the config mentioned above. Setting call forward via the handset isn't working either.
I'have a ticket open on this in the third month now.

Thank you Mandella!!!

So the ATA is the modem/router then? In other words, I should have done it when I was still at home... oh well.

I'll post back here to advise if it works in a couple of days...

Modem, router, ata (analog telephone adapter) can all be in the same box or come as separate units. You seem to have the all-in-one type.

James I had issues dating back 2 months and after a lot of emails have resigned myself to :

1. That call forward from an ATA (which did work) appears to have been disabled within the Exetel VOIP network.
2. That if the SIP is actively registered in X-Lite or other device then Exetel call forwarding does not work.

Yes - the Dynalink RTA1046VW does all those things. Once home, I went into the Dynalink settings, disabled the "voice" function and call forward is now working!

So thank you very much Mandella and Gidget for patiently explaining what I'd been doing wrong! And good luck to Mandella and JamesR with fixing the problems that you're having...
