Change plan; keep 100 free VOIP calls?

Post by MikeTurner » Thu Dec 31, 2009 12:05 am

Hi all,

I'm going to change plans from a plan that has 100 free VOIP calls (came with ADSL2).

Do the new plans include this?

Thanks, Mike

That is, change ADSL2 plans. Do the VOIP calls remain?

No. As always, you have to weigh up the relative pluses and minuses of changing plans. If you used to use your whole 100 free VOIP calls, that was worth $10 to you - if you didn't use them all each month then you'd obviously need to reduce the effective saving. On the other hand, with the new plan that you are considering, will it save you money, or increase your download quota, or both?

I have 2 VOIP accounts one which I use over my ADSL2 connection and the other through my HSPA mobile connection. The 100 free landline calls on my ADSL connection seem to come off both of my voip services.

Thanks Gidget.

Are there any Naked ADSL plans with the 100 free VOIP calls as an inclusion?

Could exetel consider this?

Mike

Meaning you get 200 free landline calls, or you only get 100 and you think you should be getting 200? If the later, it is probably worthwhile sending an email to residentialsupport@exetel.com.au to ask about this.

Nope. Exetel now seem to be conscientiously moving to a "pay for what you use" model instead of bundling extras with their services. You can see similar things with pricing and excess usage fees too

I think you'll find that the plans that included the $5 worth of calls previously were around $10 a month dearer than the current equivalents, at least they are in my case, cheaper just to get a current plan and pay for your calls

My understanding is that the 100 free calls associated with your ADSL VoIp account need to be made on your ADSL service and the 100 free calls assocaiated with the HSPA account similarly need to be made when using HSPA service.

From memory there was an announcement to this effect. Did a quick search but failed to find the link!

I have a related question - if you change from one exetel Naked plan with a DID number to another exetel Naked plan, do you get to keep the same DID number?

Yep. Automagically.
