We are setting up 2 VOIP DID's for outgoing calls, with the intention of transferring over our 5 PSTN lines if the VOIP system works (connected to Exetel via Ethernet over copper PES15).

I have now found that the Caller ID displayed is that of the actual DID provided, I had assumed that the Lynksys PAP2T "Display Name" would be the Caller ID number.

So, is it possible to have a different Caller ID, as we have existing phone numbers that we want people to call back on, not on the additional VOIP numbers.

If not I will have to cancel the setup as it is no use to us the way it works now as the only other option of no caller id is also not acceptable as many people ignore these calls.

Why not use PSTN to VoIP?

The FAQ linked is applicable to Residential ADSL2 Naked although i am sure you could phone up and ask if they can do this for your Ethernet account?

I think there is an issue with their wholesaler not supporting CallerID masking, but as I only deal in ADSL1 I could be out of touch in this regard.

MCCMikey is right. This topic has a long history in the forum. The telco won't permit spoofing caller ID, so your DID it is.

Ravenous's suggestion means first giving up your PSTN lines so that the numbers can be transferred to VoIP, but it's the long term solution. If you want to run tests first, just apply for one or more DIDs and try them out, despite the caller ID. Most people will just dial that number back. They can be easily surrendered when the trial ends and the porting has occurred.

Hi

you need to request this from our voice manager with proper billing proof showing that number you need to overwrite with VOIP number is belong to you. When voice manager approved you can override your voip number with a different number.

Does this mean I can use my Exetel HSPA number to mask my VoIP number again? Like I was until Christmas last year?

This is exactly what I asked for all along!

Does this apply to business only, or does it extend to residential as well? I am hoping it does:)

Hey.

How can i "request this from our voice manager"?

Is there an email adress i should use or have i missed a part of the mebers facilities?

All,
Please include the at least the front page of the bill of the number you want as the mask. We need to see that our details on file match the details of your PSTN service.
If you only get an electronic bill, the bill summary will do.
You can PDF and include with the email, otherwise, create the ticket and then fax to us attention to whoever is handling the ticket and the ticket number.
Remember though, like blocking a caller ID, it's a mask and the true FNN may be displayed to some systems with high level access.

I might be missing something here, but can I mask my VOIP with a mobile number? That is my primary contact number.

I requested that Exetel overwrite my DID's CID with my mobile phone number, and they did so. (In my case the DID is linked to the Exetel HSPA / GSM account which is linked to the SIM in my mobile phone, and the mobile phone number which is masking my DID is linked to that SIM.)
