Active status but nothing happenning

Post by Korshca » Fri Oct 29, 2010 8:02 pm

Hi
I've just joined exetel, gone naked adsl with voip.
I've managed to get the internet working corectly after a couple of hiccups (me...)
Now I'm trying to get the voip working, on the members page is says my service is active
so i then went to the dynalink to set up voip following instuctions, filled in all details hit apply and the screen says processing
and thats it light on modem not on, silence on handset??
Am I jumping the gun, I only signed up for voip at lunchtime but it came up as active almost straight away
Does active mean it's ready to use????

Modem - New dynalink 1046
Phone - Old cordless telstra cheapie ($15 -12mths ago)

Thanks in advance
Nicole

Welcome to the Exetel forum Korshca. It doesn't take long for VoIP services to become active (unless you are porting a Telstra number). The help sheet, if you haven't seen it, is at http://www.exetel.com.au/files/dynalinkvoip_setup.pdf. What does the Dynalink say at the top of the page Voice->SIP Basic, under Phone 1? What we want to see is "(You can make VOIP phone calls through this port now.)" Standard cordless phones are alright (though I can't remember them being so cheap).

Re the internet - it's working now, but the only page to fill in is Quick Start.

Thanks for the quick reply

Copy of what it says (clever me :D )
I manange to bluff my way thru most stuff, not computer savvy....

SIP Basic Settings

Phone 1: PSTN mode
(The registration is failed. You can not make VOIP phone calls through this port now.)
Phone 2: PSTN mode
(The registration is failed. You can not make VOIP phone calls through this port now.)

Interface: pppoe_8_35_1
SIP Transport Protocol: UDP Port: 5060
VoIP Service Provider: Others
SIP Registrar Address:sip1@exetel.com.au Port: 5060
SIP Outbound Proxy: sip1@exetel.com.au Port: 5060
SIP Proxy Server Address: sip1@exetel.com.au Port: 5060

Registration Information

Phone Phone Number Caller Name User Name Password
1 073040**** 073040 **** 073040**** ###########

2

Where it says interface it only gives 2 options from a drop down box, neither are exactly what it says on the setup guide on here
but the ppp one I selected

Thanks

P.S. Didn't port number

P.P.S Internet is going great! I was trying to jump the gun, telstra landline was dissconneted so I figured it was ready to go,
without actually checking the status which still was saying pending, all good this morning -set up was easy

Thanks
Nic

That VoIP page looks ok, though I prefer using the address 58.96.1.2 as it saves a domain name lookup. I assume you pressed Apply, so check the VoIP password - it is case sensitive. The password is listed in the user facility if you aren't sure of it.

PS "Registration" is simply you logging into the VoIP server with name=your DID and password=your VoIP password. This tells the server which internet address your calls are to be sent to.
PPS The password is at Manage Services->VoIP->Change VoIP Services (a tag) https://www.exetel.com.au/members/voip_ ... ervice.php

Thank you so much Dazzled :D :D

That solved the problem instantly

Note for other users I copied and pasted password due to the OO and 00 in it not sure which they were.

My cheapy phone even has caller id amazing!!!

One other small problem (sorry) every time I try and set up secure network, I only get local connection??

Wondering if you could use your magic again???

I used to live on acerage but now in suburbia and I can see all the neighbours connections, can't afford to share!! :?

I really appretiate your help

Go to Wireless-> Security.
Set network, a new name;
Security- WPA-PSK
Encryption- TKIP
Format- press ASCII
Preshared key- dream up a wireless password or even a line of poetry.
Apply

Go to Wireless -> Basic, and tick it Enabled, press Apply

Go to Wireless->Access control.
select off. If you changed anything, Apply.

In your computers, type/select: the network name (SSID), WPA, and the pass phrase.

Thanks Dazzled

Not having much luck with this!

I am getting a bit weary though, will try again tomorrow.

Not a huge problem and my friend has a teenage son who can probably sort it for me, if I am still struggling!

Once again a huge Thank you for sorting my voip out, I was having phone withdrawals

I have already spoken to 2 friends and the voip works great.

I have never used it before and was a little concerned, but am now looking forward to a much smaller bill!!!

:D :D :D
