x-lite call dropouts 5-20 seconds

Post by macgreer » Mon Aug 12, 2013 12:15 pm

Hi All. I have setup x-lite & woorks great, but calls drop out after a few seconds - 6,7,16,25,6 seconds are the last few.
I have tried unchecking "send SIP keep alives", but no difference.

Any clues what next to try please?
thanks
Mac

Check your router for a setting called something along the lines of "SIP (ALG) Application Layer Gateway" or simlar. Whatever that setting is, try changing it to the opposite and test.

Depends on the model of router as to whether this is an option. Essentially, due to NAT, what happens is the SIP initiation packets have a different source IP in the header to stream packets and once the SIP switch works this out, it dumps the stream.

Your router needs to send the same address for both (ie your public IP) and that what that setting does. There is also a setting in higher spec'd routers called SIP NAT Fixups which attempts to correct this, sometimes badly.

There is a value in the X-Lite network parameters that determines when the call will be dropped if the network response is unsatisfactory. My calls used to drop out at 30 seconds until I changed the setting.
