Billion 7800VDPX VOIP Setup

I have completed a firmware upgrade from version 2.24 to the latest 2.32c on my Billion 7800VDPX modem router
Internet access is good however I am unable to establish VOIP service (which worked fine before the upgrade)
The installation has been completed with a reset to factory settings and a reinstall of my setup details
I am using a Uniden DSS 2465 chordless telephone system
The telephone will not accept inbound calls to the VOIP number nor can I make outgoing VOIP calls (there is no voip dial tone either). The PSTN landline works as normal (used for ADSL! internet connection)
I have downloaded the X-lite soft phone program to a laptop which is connected wirelessly to the modem which has the voip issues. The soft phone accepted the set up details without issue. I can make outgoing calls from the soft phone to PSTN and mobile telephones OK.
I am unable to make inbound calls to my VOIP number on the softphone from either my PSTN or personal mobile telephones.

I have a very limited technical understanding of these issues however I did take a copy of the VOIP setup details prior to the upgrade and have faithfully re-entered the information.

Are there any suggestions to fix this problem or can someone provide me a link to a page of setup instructions for the exetel voip connection with the 7800VDPX.

Thank you
Abbo

Hi Abbo,

Did you try setting up a dial plan. If not could you try in the format below.

x.@yourVoIPnumber

Hi ShaminG,
I have previously set up a number of dial up plans, and subsequently re-entered, in the format you suggest.
I can still soft phone call out but trying to call in gets one of three results in my earpiece (as occurred on previous occasions):
a. an ascending three note sequence
b. a repeating single note engaged type note
c. a woman's voice saying "the dialed number has been disconnected"

I personally suspect there are some issues with my entry of any of the sections labelled "service provider", "SIP account" or VOIP Dial Plan". Unfortunately none of my combinations have not worked so far. A step by step setup guide for dummies would be useful if you know of one.

This is because the number is currently registered via both your modem and softphone. If you de-register the setup from modem, softphone should work properly.

We will get an Engineer to be in contact with your to help with the settings.

Hi ShaminG,
I spoke with a technician and all settings were verified as correct. It looked like I was going to have to speak with Billion over the problem.
Anyway, I did some more looking around the modem setup and found a section that I do not recall being present in the earlier version of firm ware I had been operating

It appears the fix to my problem is in the section:
VOIP ; SIP Device

In here there are two sections

A. "Dial Plan Priority" had a default factory setting of "Mode1 (DEFAULT:always match PSTN dial plan first, then VOIP dial plan)
I changed this setting to "Mode 0: VOIP Only (Ignore dial plans, send all calls to VOIP, including emergency.)

B. TONE CONTROL , Dial Tone select "tone1" rather than the default (which was "follow locale selection")

It is early days but the internet and Voip appear to be working as well as before the firmware upgrade

I hope this information helps and thanks for your assistance.

As a follow on comment to this thread, I recently decided to upgrade and bought a 7800VDPX. I updated it with Firmware Version 2.32d, release date 21 Jan 2014.

The Quick Start wizard setup for ADSL and VoIP gave me absolutely no trouble at all. I was surfing the net and making VoIP calls (in and out) in the blink of an eye. A much less stressed experience than the Draytek Vigor 2710Vn setup that the BiPac unit replaced.

The only thing that I thought might have tripped me up was manually entering my external IP address. I just had to take note of this before I disconnected the Draytek. Routine details like the service number and account address, were details that were easily located.

Happy days ..
