Setting Up Exemail on iPhone?

Post by Matsky » Mon Jul 21, 2008 5:56 pm

Hey guys,

I'm trying to get my Exetel email to work on my iPhone. So far I can successfuly recieve my emails, but I'm having trouble sending them (they just stay in the outbox). One did get through, but I'm not sure what I did (it was to myself though).

My settings are:
POP Account Information
Name: (as I have it on my Exetel account)
Address: (my full Exetel email address)
Description: (as above)

Incoming Mail Server
Host Name: pop3.wa.exemail.com.au
User Name: (my full Exetel email address)
Password: (the same password I use to access it via webmail)

Outgoing Mail Server
SMTP: smtp.wa.exemail.com.au

Advanced
Incoming Settings

Use SSL: OFF
Authentication: Password
Delete from server: Never
Server Port: 110
Does this sound right? I hope I'm posting this in the right forum too.

Cheers,
Mat

You wont be able to use the Exetel SMTP server, you'll need to set this to the SMTP server of your supplier, being Vodafone, Optus of Telstra.

Or, if you can find a public SMTP server then use that

Im running an iphone 3G now aswell, got my Gmail setup on it working perfectly.

Oh ok, so if I can find the Optus server will it work, or would I be best to just grab a gmail account?

I would recommend a GMail account. Because this has the added benefit of backing up your sent emails on Gmail's servers (all outgoing message appear in the Sent Items of your GMail mailbox). See http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answ ... swer=72454 for further details.

Even better, GMail supports IMAP, meaning you could redirect all incoming mail to GMail, use it's spam filters and then access your messages simultaneously via multiple devices: iPhone, home computer, etc very efficiently. See https://mail.google.com/support/bin/ans ... swer=77702 for further details

As Corey has mentioned, Gmail supports IMAP and its like having a live copy of Gmail on my iphone.
