Mobile 1 plan change

Hello,

I have received message advising Mobile 1 plan (Vodafone) is to be removed.

Firstly some feedback. The members area does not currently allow me to chose a per-minute Optus plan instead listing just Optus Cap plan choices. What is the time frame to have the members area updated if I choose to switch to an Optus per minute plan? Basically, the members area needs to be updated to reflect the plan recommendations within the message.

Edit: Just re-reading the message it says to order a new service with port rather than using the change option so guess the above question is answered.

Secondly, as there are mobile providers able to provide a $0/month plus call cost plans, why can't Exetel? I presume the issue essentially comes down to providing Exetel to Exetel calls and SMS. As such, could Exetel (urgently) consider adding a new Optus per minute plan that is $0/month but does not include Exetel to Exetel entitlement? Without such a plan, I (and I guess many) will have to port out as the monthly fee even on a base plan (in particular where you have several phones) is several magnitude more than our monthly spend.

Thanks for your consideraton.

Andrew.

I got the same email. (Yet another clumsy, bossy insult to my intelligence, like all the ones about ADSL plan changes)

Hi mart. I'd perfer not to list low cost mobile providers on an Exetel public forum; that's not my intent. My hope is that Exetel would consider a $0 per month plan without Exetel call and SMS inclusions as an option. I should think that viable considering similar plans exist elsewhere. If such a plan would work for you and thereby allow you to maitain you mobile(s) with Exetel then add your voice.

Quite right, I'd rather not either, I was only stirring the pot.
I've already applied to port to a plan with another provider that better suits my needs (after maybe five years with exetel!).

(I have also gone into new 6 month contract with exetel for ADSL)

Got two slightly different emails (I have two vodaphone networked exetel mobile 1 plans). The First one was couched as an opportunity to reduce costs and it says;

"Transfer to our new Mobile service (via the Optus network) and SAVE!

Exetel has performed analysis on your mobile spend and this shows that your average monthly spend is between $2 and $10. As a result and with additional benefits if you were to convert to a new CAP plan, we would like to bring to your attention that the Mobile 1 plan may no longer be the most cost effective plan for you.

Therefore, Exetel would like to make the following offer to you to transfer your existing Exetel (via Vodafone network) mobile service to a new Exetel (via Optus network) mobile service.

The offering is available for orders placed from now until 30/04/2011.

Waive $20 activation fee
First month's minimum spend value (on a per minute plan) or CAP Value is FREE (excess over the minimum or CAP will be charged)
If you also have Exetel ADSL, there is a monthly discount off the plan fee when you transfer "

Ok..nothing in this letter talks about Exetel ditching the Mobile 1 plan. In fact the plan is still available as of today to new user as per this website http://www.exetel.com.au/mobile_plans.htm.
If exetel are going to kill this plan at the end of this month then a new user would be very aggrieved at putting out $20 for activation and then told the following month that they must now port to an new Optus carrier and pay minium $5 per month. Some people would strongly suggest that this is a grossly missleading and deceptive practice and that they are baiting new customers to a low cost plan and then forcing them to move to a more expensive monthly plan. Why do I say Forced? Well here is my second letter from exetel for my second mobile;

" Notice to transfer to our new Mobile service (via the Optus network)

Exetel has performed analysis on your mobile spend and this shows that your average monthly mobile spend is less than $2. This very low monthly spend is unfortunately costing Exetel more than it is to provide the service. As a result, it is necessary for us to decommission the Mobile 1 plan (via the Vodafone network) from 1/5/2011.

Options available to you which must be done on or before 30/4/2011 are to:

a) Transfer to one of Exetel’s new Mobile plans (via the Optus network).

See below for details

b) Transfer your mobile service to another mobile service provider of your choice.

Please be advised, if neither of these options is completed by 30/4/2011, your mobile service plan will be automatically converted to the Mobile 2 service plan (via the Vodafone network), which has a $5.00 minimum spend per month."

Exetel have made it clear they will "decommision the mobile one plan" but its not clear if they are going to do that for everyone or just me. I left another provider to join this low cost plan because it met my needs and I was never told that that there would be a minimum spend otherwise I would be given the boot. I always seem to be jumping through hoops for Exetel.

I know how you feel.

Interesting that your higher spending mobile didn't get the heavy email? I feel more pleased about porting away now.

If you go through the link that you have provided, you will see that there is no ORDER button to place an order. Kindly be informed that we are now providing mobile services via Optus network only. These are the only plans http://www.exetel.com.au/residential-mo ... -plans.php which are currently available for new customers to sign up. We are not trying to misslead any new customers.

If a customer has an ADSL service with us it would be adeal for the customer to get a CAP plan as they will get discounts on their monthly ADSL rental. Eg. with CAP19 it would be $19 for the mobile plan and you will get $10 monthly discount on ADSL rental. It is as if you pay only $9 and you will get $165 worth of calls/SMS for other networks.

If you get the mobile A plan (per-minute plans), it would be $5 including calls/SMS for $5.

With the promotion you get the below benefits (Eg. CAP$19)
-Activation = $20
-First month rental = $19
-First month ADSL rental = $10 (if having an ADSL)
TOTAL = $49

Please write to residentialsales@exetel.com.au with the plan you would like to get and we will handle the change of plans, you may also write with any query that you have and we will be happy to assist you with your query in order to help you out to order the right plan.

Is there an Exetel rep that can answer my request for consideration of new $0/month plan; one that lacked Exetel call inclusion if that's required to make it viable? Note I have requested this via the suggestion box also.

Also, I have 4 x mobiles on mobile 1 plan. Am I required to move all mobiles to a new plan as the message is not clear in that regard? I have messaged residential sales but haven't had a reply as yet.

Your email has been now replied.

"Since you have 4 mobile services and an ADSL service with us, the ideal plan would be to change to the mobile CAP19 plan. You will get $40 discount on your ADSL service where you currently pay $43. You will be paying $9*4 = $36 in total for the 4 mobile plans.

Trust that this is a very attractive offer for you and that you would confirm to change over to this plan. That's not all, you will get $165 worth of calls/SMS to other networks for each plan and between Exetel to Exetel you will get $148 worth of call/SMS.

Your saving from this promotion would be,

Free activation $20*4 = $80
Free first month rental $19*4 = $76
First month discount $10*4 = $40

TOTAL saving = $196 which means a saving of $16.33 per month for 12 months!!!"

Very interesting!
I to have 2 mobile services and in both cases I got the offer saying you can save money by going to OPTUS. After doing my own analysis I decided that no my current Vodafone plan was better as my average monthy spend across 2 mobiles is less than 1 CAP plan minimum spend. And the per minute killer is that data on vodafone is 7c a Mb where as OPTUS is over 3 times more expensive at 24c a Mb. I don't use anything near 100Mb so I don't want to include data I just want to be a casual user and pay for what I use. But as a casual user the price of data is probably at least 20% of my usage. Thus the price difference in data has a big impact.

I will be following this up with residential sales as per the email!

I thought the cap plans and the minute plans that are Optus/Exetel were monthly non-contract periods. I assume that the 12 months you have indicated is the optimistic saving in the event the plan still exists in 12 months. I say optimistic because I have not gotton 12 months from the mobile vodaphone plans with exetel and I transferred and paid my activation fees to get these $0 monthly plans in good faith because I thought that at the very least I would safely get 12 months to depreciate the activation fee.Seems that Exetel have lead me astray in this one. Not happy.

I have your email; thank you for your reply. I'll need to do the sums as 2 of the 4 phones are essentially unused; it's what we hand to the kids when they take the dog for a walk etc. The other 2 we do use and even then, our total mobile spend across the 4 phones is $10-15/month so comined with ADSL we spend $55 odd a month. Taking into account the ADSL discount with 4 x CAP19 plans we'd be paying more per month not less. Don't get me wrong, the Exetel plans still represent good value; it's just the question of what one does with no/little use per month phones. If the kids were older and burning up calls it would be another matter all together. Again thanks. I'll check out the current plan offerings.

I spoke with the residential sales section over the phone today and received an email at home. They contain essentially the same message but differ in the details.

It is agreed in both the email and on the phone that Mobile 1 plans will continue next month provided you have a minimum spend. BUT the minimum spend from my phone call was $2 and the email said $5. This looks like you are effectively showing a Mobile 2 type consumption.

Anyways I am covered for the relevant monthly spend so I am happy. For those of you still confused hopefully the above helps your decision making.
