Cancel ported service?

I received emails for several of my Vodafone mobile services advising that I needed to change plans due to low usage or port away. I ported away but have still received reminder emails about the services. I advised Exetel and was told I should cancel the services via the User facilities. Is this normal or required or will the services (which are still showing as active) eventually disappear?
