Swap sim to new phone problem on 1 tower only

I have an older 3g mobile phone service which is 1 of the rebadged Optus services. My old phone is getting pretty tired so I decided to start using a newish spare phone I have.
Swapped the sim card out to the new phone, all connected, all working, all good. Until I headed out to the farm yesterday to find I had no service. Soon as I got back into my home tower area, all started working again.
Took my old phone out to the farm today, put my sim back in my old phone & am getting full service from it. Swap sim to the new phone & no service at the farm, yet this new phone works back in my home area.
Home area = Tamworth
Farm area = Manilla
Any ideas why this might be happening on what seems to be just 1 tower?

Hi,

Please note that Optus is making changes to their mobile network and they have closed down 2G mobile network since 1st of August 2017.

If you are currently having 2G network settings on your mobile handset,this change could have affected your service.

Therefore you may need to change the frequency to 3G - 2100 MHz.

Exetel apologies for the inconvenience may have caused by this.
