Email Account Management Policy
email accounts
I have set up email accounts for my family and my business 6 accounts in total. My son and wife use theirs seldomly but are very happy to have an email account and we would be very dis appointed if they were deleted as they dont send or recieve many emails and dont use much space. I use Outlook to check my email regularly it also check theirs, would this be classed as not neglecting an account? I have a BIG spam problem with my business account that is printed on all my bus.cards etc. so I really dont want to delete the account. although I use Norton anti spam and Spambayes I still have to sift through 100's of spam daily, none of these are requested emails, most of them are filth and all of them carry a virus, this has been going on for months. I would like to find out where this spammer lives so I could knock on his door and stab him in the throat!!
I have no idea how he got hold of my email address or how to stop tthis from happening, can anyone help me? please!!

New Email Rules
I totally agree with what Exetel has proposed. For those that only use the Webmail as their email client I would sugest that you copy and past the rewuired emails to a file on your computer. This will give you ready access when you need it. Well done Exetel!!! You have my vote
Stay Cool Bear
what about for those who continuosly use webmail, and would like all their emails (even the older ones) available to them at any time or place where they can access the internet?
like i said: just do 1)
then if necessary: do 2)
and for 2) start of with a light threshold (eg: 1 yr old emails) then lower it according to demand.. 9months, 6 months, 3 months

Exetel didn't say they'll delete old emails. They said they'll delete accounts that haven't received any new email in 3 months.
I'm still waiting for a response from an admin on how they'll deal with accounts that are checked every day but might not receive an email for 3 months. This is still a valid account for me and I don't want it deleted.

You should read the first post on this thread again.permutation wrote:Exetel didn't say they'll delete old emails. They said they'll delete accounts that haven't received any new email in 3 months.
And some of the other posts as well. One check to an account every six months would flag the accont as 'active' and it would not be deleted.I'm still waiting for a response from an admin on how they'll deal with accounts that are checked every day but might not receive an email for 3 months. It's a free or at worst complimentary one. If it is all that important then either pay for a better service or change your ISP.
Anyone who is whinging about having to use an all so important account 2 times a year is just that, a whinger.
Now if you disagree then fine but for god sakes it's 2 mouse clicks for a free service now get over it.
Secondly if your mail is so important then FORWARD it to a different account. As I said before if the mail is THAT important then you shouldn't be relying on someone elses server in the first place.
From my point of view and I suspect the vast majority the changes are fine.

Goomf perhaps you should have read my second post.To start with, not everybody's circumstances are the same, so don't lump everybody as whingers just because they disagree.
The first quote was aimed at Nemesis more than anyone. There are many ways to get your point across without carrying on like a <fill the gap>. However my outlook remains the same, whilst many people might have different needs I can't see why Exetel should be forced to cater to everyone at no extra cost. That's like saying we should all get free downloads because some of us need it.Well it's obvious from this thread that some people have more complex needs than others.

If you want to delete unused accounts, that's fine. However, I object to the deletion of old mail. I am currently using about 1% of my quota, and am unlikely to ever reach 10%. I would rather you gave people the option to reduce their quota and left their old emails alone than enforce this policy. It will aggravate me and provide no benefit to Exetel in this situation.

Which is fine assuming you are always using the same computer. I certainly am not.dbear wrote:For those that only use the Webmail as their email client I would sugest that you copy and past the rewuired emails to a file on your computer. This will give you ready access when you need it.
If you really need to leave emails on a mail server instead of downloading them and if you really need to continue to have access to such emails after 3 months, why not forward them to a G-Mail account?

There are two ways to get a GMail account now - you can self-register by providing a mobile phone number, or a current GMail member can send you an invitation URL by email (doesn't need a mobile phone, obviously). I don't know what GMail does with your mobile number other than send you a registration code.Gidget wrote:why not forward them to a G-Mail account?
If you want one or more invitations, send me a PM with your email address and how many invites you want (1-10); there are other forum members with plenty of invites to offer too. Note that some of the web-based email providers treat GMail invites as spam/bulk mail, so you need to turn off auto-deletion of spam temporarily before asking for the invite.

It would take all of 2minutes to establish a free account at yahoo.com, hotmail.com or gmail.comShaggyMoose wrote:Which is fine assuming you are always using the same computer. Problem solved:)
I think we need to go back to the original intention that was given for this policy change -
As a number of people have stated, they are using their account through webmail, then they will have "older" e-mails but not because they are not used at all or used and then 'abandoned'.
So maybe point 1 of the proposal is all that is needed.
So for me, deleting e-mails older than 3 months does not accurately trap this behaviour. Not surprisingly there are a significant, and growing, number of email accounts that have been set up and either not used at all or used and then 'abandoned'.

So let me get this straight. To save my accounts and their content being deleted, all I have to do is access them using Outlook Express and download any messages on them to my computer within a three month period. Is just accessing them using OE or the like enough to keep them from being removed?
Any messages I would like to keep on the internet to access from other computers etc. I just forward onto one of those free web based email addresses.
Cheers,
Matt.

I am not too good with technical e-mail questions, so can somebody answer the following questions for me:-
1) If e-mails that are older than 3 months being deleted, where are they being deleted from? Will they be deleted from the "inbox", or can they also be deleted from any folder created within the "personal folders" section in Outlook?
Dumb question to most of you probably, but sometimes basic questions are best.
Haven't got anymore questions just yet, but may have some after I get a response to this post.
cheers
