VOIP - via the Mobile Phone
Re: VOIP - via the Mobile Phone
I have this problem also and is a little annoying. It has been mentioned here before, hopefully they will rectify this issue.
The views I present are that of my own and NOT of any organisation I may belong to.

Re: VOIP - via the Mobile Phone
I just tried a voip call using Fring on my N95 via wifi. There was about a 1 second delay, so I wont be using it that.
Re: VOIP - via the Mobile Phone
have you tried it via the built in SIP client in your N95?Bundy wrote:I just tried a voip call using Fring on my N95 via wifi. There was about a 1 second delay, so I wont be using it that.

Yes, as per my post on the prevous page I can't get that working either.jok11n wrote:have you tried it via the built in SIP client in your N95?Bundy wrote:I just tried a voip call using Fring on my N95 via wifi. There was about a 1 second delay, so I wont be using it that.

are you using an Exetel HSPA service?Bundy wrote:Yes, as per my post on the prevous page I can't get that working either.jok11n wrote:have you tried it via the built in SIP client in your N95?Bundy wrote:I just tried a voip call using Fring on my N95 via wifi. I'd swear I replied to that question last night, I guess I mustn't have.jok11n wrote:are you using an Exetel HSPA service?
Anyway - I am not using any HSPA service. I was trying to get both the native voip and Fring (which did work but with an unsatisfactory delay) working via my home wifi network.
Re: VOIP - via the Mobile Phone
the native SIP app can be a bit tricky, works with one provider, doesn't work with the next etc, when setup it's fine though, the reason I asked if it was with an Exetel HSPA service is that they stated they will be doing some routing for Fring locally, don't know if this extends to their ADSL network though (hopefully they do as obviously you would want to use your device via Wi-Fi when possible) I have found in the past that if using Fring and it is registering to the US or EU servers that there can be a bit of latency, Exetel routing locally should avoid this but I haven't seen any update on if this is happening yetBundy wrote:I'd swear I replied to that question last night, I guess I mustn't have.jok11n wrote:are you using an Exetel HSPA service?

Perhaps one of the staff can comment further on the current status with Fring

Re: VOIP - via the Mobile Phone
I'm grappling with trying to set upthe native SIP client on my Nokia 6720 Classic and am a little confused about the settings to use
Exetel have sent me these settings to use:
If you have your own preferred softphone/hardware, you should use the settings below.
SIP server = 58.96.1.2
SIP Port = 5060
Codec = G729
Packet Size = 20msec
So do I use 58.96.1.2 instead of sip1.exetel.com.au in the proxy and realm settings? A lot of the other settings in Exetel's list aren't asked for - I assume they're preset in the Nokia settings
Really appreciate any help on working through the settings I need to get VOIP working using the native SIP client - and I'll try Exetels MOIP when they send it to me

Re: VOIP - via the Mobile Phone
Use 58.96.1.2 It's the same place, and saves the time of a DNS lookup.

Never did get this working so closing this one out for anyone else who strikes the same issue.bodogbodog wrote:I'm grappling with trying to set upthe native SIP client on my Nokia 6720 Classic and am a little confused about the settings to use
I gave up on the Nokia built-in SIP client and installed the Exetel MOIP client – it worked perfectly first time!
Happily enjoying VOIP calls and low cost SMS's now – great reception at home so no issues with drop outs.
It's going to put a big dent in my normal mobile monthly charges.
