ADSL2 slows down to 2.5Mbps around midnight

Post by marting » Tue Mar 03, 2009 9:57 am

I normally get 10Mbps but around midnight my connection slows down to 2.5 which makes it impractical to watch video such as Fox Business. I'm on the Redfern exchange. It has been going on for about a week.

When you say 10Mbps and 2.5Mbps, you are referring to data speeds, right? Because if your *sync* speed is fluctuating each midnight, then this is an issue that should be looked into by lodging a support ticket.

Otherwise, around midnight is when download usage increases due to the off-peak download allowance, so perhaps one practical piece of advice is to try and avoid watching bandwidth critical video streaming around these times. I suspect the performance of video streaming would be much better in peak, as well as in morning (7am to midday) off-peak times. If so, it probably represents natural congestion, of which there isn't much that can be done.
