Unable to Connect to Exetel SMTP Server

Hi

I've just noticed that none of my mail has been sent for a number of days. I've tracked it down to the fact that I can't contact to exetel's mail server 'smtp.nsw.exemail.com.au'

POP3 is ok as I can receive mail

After reading the fault finding techniques in this forum, I'm still not able to pinpoint the problem.

A ping to 'smtp.nsw.exemail.com.au' fails 'Request timeout'

A trace route shows:

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>tracert smtp.nsw.exemail.com.au

Tracing route to smtp.po.exetel.com.au [220.233.0.8]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 <10 ms <10 ms <10 ms home.gateway [192.168.0.254]
2 21 ms 21 ms 20 ms 193.1.233.220.static.exetel.com.au [220.233.1.193]
3 21 ms 21 ms 20 ms 57.2.233.220.static.exetel.com.au [220.233.2.57]
4 21 ms 21 ms 21 ms 182.31.96.58.static.exetel.com.au [58.96.31.182]
5 * * * Request timed out.
6 * * * Request timed out.

The request times out continues until the 30th hop.

Is this a routiing issue as the requests seem to go astray inside exetel controlled space?

are you trying from an Exetel connection (I notice you're on another connection at the moment) the SMTP server is not available outside of the Exetel network

Yes

I'm trying to connect from an Exetel 115.70.33.xx IP address.

The original post (and this) was submitted outside of the exetel network.
