Hi,
I left Exetel about 14 months ago because I moved to a satellite only region. When I was with Exetel previously I got a lot of junk mail - viagra sales particularly - in my Thunderbird email account with an exemail address. Then I was with Aussie Broadband and set my email in Thunderbird and did not get one piece of junk mail in the year or so with them. Now I am back with Exetel and 17 hours after setting up my email with them (Thunderbird) I get 2 viagra emails again. WHAT IS GOING ON????? Welcome back!!!

Back at Exetel & it took 17 hours to get junk mail!!
Re: Back at Exetel & it took 17 hours to get junk mail!!
We all get it, and no sizable ISP misses out. Read the email header and see how it found you (probably in the envelope field). You are more likely to be found quickly if your email address is a dictionary word or a phone book name. For example, my phone book name is hit daily; another one with a quirky name has never been targetted. The world is full of zombie Windows boxes that specialise in this - just try every-name-in-a-list@every-ISP-in-a-list.com.au.
Of course if you send an email to a zombie, get ready for a flood....

Thanks Dazzle
I guess I'll have to go with the querky name option if I want to skip on the junk mail.

Thunderbird has great Junk mail filters also .

I think I got the answer from Whirlpool forum. Somebody wrote:
"Did you get the same email address that you had last time? If so, then it would have already been on spam lists so that would be the reason you got one so quickly."
And I replied:
Well done, you get the cigar. That's absolutely what's happened!!! Thanks for that!!! I'm impressed and so's my wife.
Thanks

There is also another reason why it happens which is actually what happened in your case.
It is getting a recycled email address, You can create and discard email addresses as much as your like. So chances are when you get a new email you sometimes get someones old address which is on a bunch of spam lists. It may be the reason why it was discarded in the first place.
