SMS Facility

Post by philby49 » Thu Jan 21, 2010 6:10 pm

I'm currently unable to use the eXeSMS service. Am getting an error message : You don't have permission to access /exever.php. Is the service down ?

Yep, same problem here :( and I have to send a group message to our members. Any idea of what is going on? Also when it will be usable again?

You use third party developed software, which is not supported by Exetel.

I suggest you try Exetel developed SMS programs.

https://www.exetel.com.au/members/send_ ... exeSMS.php

Download and install the application
•PC eXeSMS VERSION 2.1 (WINDOWS)
http://exetel.com.au/files/eXeSMS_VERSI ... INDOWS.rar

•PC eXeSMS VERSION 2.1 (OTHER OS)
http://exetel.com.au/files/eXeSMS_VERSI ... HER_OS.rar

You need to create an API before using it. Follow these instructions:
•1. Login to your Exetel members facility.
•2. View Send/Manage/View SMS from the left-hand menu.
•3. Click API Accounts from the page.
•4. Enter an API username.
•5. Enter an API password.
•6. Confirm the API password.
•7. You can leave the IP address blank.
•8. Click the “Add API Access” button.

When these steps are done, you need to do the initial setup in the eXeSMS application.
•Open the eXeSMS application.
•Choose Initial Setup..from the Options menu.
•In the Username box, enter the username from step 5 above.
•In the Password box, enter the password from step 6 above.
•Enter a default sender name or mobile number.
•Click Save changes.

You can now send SMS via this application.

Raymond, i think those instructions (the second part at least) relate to the old version of exesms. In the new version there's no Options menu to choose initial setup from. There also seems to be some bugs.

I've started up version 2.1, logged in with my API access username/pw on the first screen, added the 2 numbers that I have authenticated on the next screen and then the exesms program window loads up. In the settings window I've tried to add a default salias setting - click the + add the number/description details and then hit Add Sender - but nothing appears in the default alias setting box.

Also, if I click the message service tab on the left, there's nothing in the sender dropdown list and if I type a recipient number and messaage and hit send nothing happens. Is it possible to go back to using version 1.5 until the new version is up and running correctly?

Here's an easy fix to get ExeSMS 1.5 working again :)

1 - Open your hosts file.
  • 1a: For XP, click start - Run - notepad %windir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
1b: For Vista and Windows 7,
    • click Start - All Programs - Accessories.
Right click Command Prompt, choose Run as Administrator
copy and paste or type the following: notepad %windir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
2 - Add the line:

Code: Select all

127.0.0.1	www.montarotech.net
3 - Save and close.

Your ExeSMS should now work, as the only problem with it is that it crashes on the update check. (And there hasn't been one of them for years...)

This does not solve the underlying mystery as to why the website of the author of the program no longer replies to version check queries. It might just be a temporary oversight, or something more sinister.

[hint]It'd be good to have a jar of this that would work on Java enabled phones [/hint]

I wonder if Exetel could change their hosts file / DNS instead? Perhaps the loss of the entire montarotech website might be too much collateral damage, but it would fix the problem for all Exetel customers while connected to Exetel.

I'm glad this fix is working well for you all :) Thanks for your acknowledgments.
