8mb speed plan
8mb speed plan
Hi all,
I'm in the country, so have no choice but ADSL1. In 2008 I had an 8mb plan with Exetel - it was awesome!
Have moved twice since then, and have been back on 1500. I would love a an 8mb speed option.
The only one currently doesn't appeal, with the fixed 6/12gb data plan.
Is there any liklihood of there being 8mb plans available again, even at a high cost?
Cheers,
Adrian.

Re: 8mb speed plan
Hi All,
I too have been on the 1500 plan now for a while and i live only 400m away from the exchange, but it is a telstra exchange, (think of the possibles
) I would love to go on the 8mb plan, but the downloads arent enough for me. I would love to see something like 2G peak and 30G off peak for $60 on the 8mb plan, or something like it. I am a very proud exetel user, and will be staying with you for a long time. I just wish i could have ADSL2 with them.

Re: 8mb speed plan
The main problem we see with 8 MBps plans is that the speed is not achieved in more and more cases leading to user disappointment and subsequent problems
The other problem is the horrendously high charge Telstra makes for the service almost double what they charge for 1500/256.
If we offered another 8MBps plan it would be at $100.00 a month for 100 gb.

Hi Forum Admin,
Thanks for the reply. Its so annoying with telstra and what they can do. The government should really do something about it. Anyways. Instead of maybe something like 100G for $100, could there be the possibility of something like 50G for $50. I would sign up in a flash and im sure there would be a lot of people that would to.

Telstra charge us more than $50 for the monthly port rental before any data is transmitted/received.pinoyako07 wrote:Hi Forum Admin,

Re: 8mb speed plan
Hi
If it was possible, what could be the cheapest 8mb plan with a decent quota/downloads, ie at least 25G or more total?

No less than $80 a month I would imagine based on past plan prices.pinoyako07 wrote:Hi

Re: 8mb speed plan
So if it would be around $80, how much downloads would be offered?
Re: 8mb speed plan
It would be nice, but I couldn't justify almost doubling my ADSL bill. Unless ADSL2+ ever becomes available at my exchange I can't see my speed going above 1.5 M
The views I present are that of my own and NOT of any organisation I may belong to.

Re: 8mb speed plan
I've been _prepared_ to pay *$40/mo* for an ADSL2(COMO)/'TLS' port for at least 12 months - which I understand represents a *100% premium* over SGT/SingTel's cost who price it a reasonable $20/mo.
- silly monopolistic control group (TLS), wave Good-bye to another $150+Per Annum over FY'10
ps. the 'lost commission' goes to a good 100 gb of downloads (for me @ 1.5 Mbit) @ Exetel instead.

Re: 8mb speed plan
With the introduction of no charge off peak plans for every other ADSL1 plan early this year, would it be viable to introduce a 8mb/384k plan with 12gb +$0.5/GB extra peak and "no charge" off peak (not unlimited) for an extra $5-7/mth, as seems to be the approximate additional charge for other value added plans over no frills plans ? eg $3/mth for 256k, $2/mth 512k, $5/mth 1500k) So the total cost would be $65-67. I would love this sort of plan as would many others here. I am in country Brisbane, so ADSL2+ (iinet, optus, etc) is not availible to me, so I must use ADSL1 exipment in the exchange (my max download is 720kb/s, 39kb/s upload) and I refuse to pay telstra ADSL2 prices especially since I don't know what speed I would be getting from ADSL2+ anyway. The current 6gb + 12gbquota is just to small for those that want the fastest connection and make good use of it. I strongly urge Exetel to think about introducing such a plan ! Surely the off peak data usage wouldn't be costing exetel any more that any other ADSL1 plan other than the potenital for 8mbs to download more in a certain time frame, but for most of the heavy downloader it is usually becuase of p2p file sharing which is throttled / Qos anyway so I don't see this being much of an issue. Also exetel already has a "no charge" acceptable user policy of 3x the user average, so it wouldn't matter what speed you were on anyway.
As for the comment about not reaching 8mb speed and customers being disappointed - well advertise is as unthrottled ADSL1 with up to a max 8mbs/384kbs speed this would be clear as crystal for customers. To me the difficulty arises from not knowing if your line will go faster than 1.5mb before signing up for the 8mb/384kb plan. This was my delema - why should I sign up for $20/mth extra over a 1500kb/256kb plan, if I am only getting 2mb/384kbs because of my distance to the exchange or line quality issues.
