ADSL 2 speeds
ADSL 2 speeds
Exetel sent me an email yesterday offering ADSL2 to me. I currently have ADSL1 1.5Mbps/256.
What average download and upload speeds can I expect from a ADSL2 connection? I know all the "It depends on this and that etc"
I'm just looking at an average of speeds. In other words I want to know if it is worth it to go to ADSL2 from ADSL1. If the speed increased isnt that great then its not worth it to me.
I have not had ADSL2 available to me before.

Re: ADSL 2 speeds
As you say, it all depends.... But a starting guess would assume that the attenuation would be nearly the same. What is the line status from your modem?
Re: ADSL 2 speeds
Line status from my modem? You have lost me there. Currently I get around 1.3Mbps with my ADSL1 connection.
If you could clarify what you mean by Line status?

Re: ADSL 2 speeds
Average Speed? ranging from 1536/256 kbps to 18 mbps down and 1 mbps up but speeds Achieved By Any User Will Depend On Many Factors as you already know. Average Speeds Obtained From 100 Test Users Was 9.5 mbps Down And 840 kbps UpMulder wrote:I'm just looking at an average of speeds. Hope that'll shed you some light?...........
Re: ADSL 2 speeds
I'll try and get a bit closer than Thejeg, but it's still guessing. Enter your modem's config page and find status. Somewhere in that section you will find line rate, attenuation and noise margin, both up and down. ADSL2 frequencies are higher, and the test result will differ, but rate still depends very much on attenuation

ADSL
Type Fast Path
Status SHOWTIME
Downstream Upstream
Data rate(Kbps) 1536Kb 256Kb
Noise Margin 27 24
Output power(dBm) 70 117
Attenuation(dB) 48 29
For reasons I dont know its not formatted right but it should say Attenuation is 48 downstream 29 upstream

Re: ADSL 2 speeds
You should be able to attain Somewhere around 6000 kbps "Dazzled" please Correct me if I'm wrong cause his distance appears to be 3.5 K's from the exchange...Mulder wrote:ADSL

Re: ADSL 2 speeds
Edit: I just cross posted this para below -- I agree on distance, and am a bit pessimistic on speed, but then I always am. There is no way of knowing what the higher frequencies will test.
Here comes a first guess (the usual mights and maybes apply). You are a long way out from the exchange, say 3 to 3.5 km (assuming urban area cabling), and if the tests are close under the new conditions, you could expect about 4000 kbps. You might get lucky and get a bit more.

I can't agree moreDazzled wrote:There is no way of knowing what the higher frequencies will test.

Say 5312 kbps or something closerDazzled wrote:You might get lucky and get a bit more.
