Im experiencing slow latency to all gaming servers within certain areas of Australia. Can't tell you where there located but theres definate lag between destinations.
Usually 30 ping, now 100-110.
Is there any word on network issues at the moment, and when they'll be sorted?
Thanks

Re: Labrador, Gold Coast, QLD slow latency
Gee, that's a bit like the length of string question. Could you post the URL of a game server with the problem? And perhaps the port? Latency could be from several sources.
Re: Labrador, Gold Coast, QLD slow latency
sorry for being so vague, but I was really just wanting to know if there were known network issues for example routing issues to sydney ips.
heres a few ips
sorry for the post, just kills me on my only gaming night having lag on my favorite servers. (well 90% of TF2)
gotta love refreshing one server for 20mins waiting for a slot
27.50.71.3:21045 - a lot in this 27.50* range
58.6.24.58:27015
101.167.20.136:27024

Re: Labrador, Gold Coast, QLD slow latency
The first thing to do is to make a run of pings and traceroutes. Below are 350 pings to 58.6.24.58 (which looks to be in WA) charted up for clarity, and a shorter run of traceroutes, with basic stats. For me in Sydney most ping trips are taking from 79 to 82 ms. clustered about 80 ms. The traceroutes show that the variance is mostly coming from the iinet installations, outside the Exetel network, though Exetel is busy as well.
The traceroutes are output from a useful utility called mtr - there's a watered down version available for Windows. For the ping chart I knocked up a quickie script to repeatedly ping, pipe to grep, then to awk (to extract just the wanted figures), and then straight into a plotting app.
[edit] I don't see how you previously got a 30ms trip if it was to WA.

Re: Labrador, Gold Coast, QLD slow latency
awesome dazzled. you have really gone far and beyond to explain that.
really appreciate it.
so, iinet is having trouble?
strange, i generally do get around 28-40 ping to those servers. usually around 35.
Interesting that your ping jumps as soon as it hits iinet. I will monitor this tomorrow. Hopefully its right by then.
Again, Thanks for your help
