Now that the fascists have passed laws that you must spy on us and retain that information for two years I would like to know exactly what you're keeping about me. Have you any links or detailed information that I may peruse? Have you rolled it out yet? Is it active?
How secret is this? How secure is it?

Re: Mandatory Data Retention
You can read the act here - https://www.legislation.gov.au/Details/C2015A00039. It will answer some questions.
If you keep track of your system, you already have the information. There are ways to reduce its usefulness in tracking you.

Re: Mandatory Data Retention
I haven't look at the final legislation but back than the government didn't even know what they want to collect when the draft was thrown around. The term "megadata" is so ambiguous that it could have meant anything in an IP header and more.
So it would be nice if Exetel can lay out the data it is/will be collecting. E.g., IP addresses of a connection, the time & date, number of bytes of data but not the URL.

Re: Mandatory Data Retention
There is a table early in the act, see link above, that lists the information that must be preserved by all companies.
Re: Mandatory Data Retention
Exetel will collect whatever information the Australian government directs us to collect.

Would you be able to:
a/. Provide the contact details of a lawyer who can translate the linked act into English.
OR
b/. Answer the question in English yourselves?

Re: Mandatory Data Retention
a. happy to recommend a lawyer, but they would charge you at least $600.00 per hour for advice.MajorWedgie wrote:Would you be able to:

b. Exetel cannot comment on this, we will simply oblige by the legislation and store and provide whatever the government requires.
