Is there any chance the VoIP voicemail service could email us with an mp3 file instead of wav?
GMail will only play mp3's.
Voicemail Emails With MP3 ?
Re: Voicemail Emails With MP3 ?
WAV (like flac and ogg) is a free format, and playable on just about anything. MP3 is lossy, but more importantly, non-free, and you won't need reminding how ridiculous Australian so-called "intellectual property" laws can be, even if many of us didn't pay. MP3 codecs are usually hosted at obscure eastern European locations where the Yank lawyers can't go.

Does anyone know how much it would cost for Exetel to use mp3?
Re: Voicemail Emails With MP3 ?
Non-free affects users' computers too. Many of us have obtained third party codecs, but the Australian enforcement of the US notion of copyright makes the legal status unclear. You paid a royalty if you bought a legit copy of Windows. Iffy with open source devices. I can't imagine a single user getting into strife, but I would want advice before organising it - look at what happened to Iinet.
MP3 is hosted here http://www.medibuntu.org/, If you actually connect to the repo you will have a very interesting trip through eastern Europe.
